Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 Sailing around the world with the prevailing winds, following the path of traditional clipper ships, has always been one of man's greatest feats. Starting with the legendary Whitbread Round the World Race, which began in 1973, to the present day Volvo Ocean Race - racing around the world is the Everest of sailing. In 1997-98, Paul Cayard transformed the Whitbread, with his professional approach to racing around the world. Cayard's drive, determination and unparalleled crew work onboard EF Language resulted in overall victory of the prestigious Whitbread Round the World Race in 1997-98. Paul was the first American to win this race and it was no surprise when he was selected by Disney to skipper and manage the Pirates of the Caribbean entry in the 2005-2006 Volvo Ocean Race. Winning the last leg of this prestigious race, Pirates of the Caribbean came from last place after Leg 1 to win a commanding second overall. |
