Another tough day for Artemis with an 8, 6. We are still in 4th place overall, but we are closer to 5th than third. The wind came up late today and we got racing at 1500 in 8 knots and fairly smooth seas. We just didn’t have a stellar day in any area, starts, tactics […]

Not a good day for Artemis today. In moderate winds but very choppy seas, we finished 6th while Matador won easily. We had a good battle with Quantum all the way around the track, they were always just in front of us, tacking on us as much as they could but we held close and […]

A great day for Artemis today with a 4, 1 which moved us into second place in the regatta. The start of racing was delayed again today while the Easterly seabreeze established itself. The Easterly wind was very spotty and shifty which made for extremely tricky racing. Onboard Artemis, we had two excellent starts again. […]

A good start to the Championship for Artemis today with a 3, 5, 2. We had to wait for a while this morning for the Southeasterly seabreeze to fill in but when it came in, it built nicely up to 17 knots in the second and third races. The race course just North of the […]

The TP52 World Championship starts here in Valencia, Spain tomorrow (October 5). Artemis is here and ready to race in what will surely be a very competitive regatta. Nine boats are competing in the five day event which includes windward leewards and one coastal race on Thursday. Today we had a breezy westerly out on […]

One race was held today in Cagliari for the TP 52 fleet. The Mistral was in at 25-28 knots and there was plenty of action. On Artemis we had another good race finishing 4th, overlapped with Emirates Team New Zealand who just beat us. Matador had been leading the race at the second windward mark […]

No racing today. The little bit of wind there was went around in circles all day. Strong winds from the Northwest are forecast for tomorrow…Mistral. The race committee moved the start time up one hour to give us a chance for three races. To watch the racing live go to www.artemisracing.com. For complete results go […]

A good day for Artemis today. Once again the coastal race proved to be to our liking as we finished a very credible 3rd. The course zigzagged us across Cagliari Bay in 11-13 knots of wind from the South. Matador got off to a good start just to windward of us and we were 1, […]

Not a good day on Artemis. We had a 5, 9, 8. The wind was a Southeasterly sea breeze of 9-13 knots. We made a nice move on the last run of the first race to go from 9th to 5th. Other than that, our day did not have any highlights. We seemed to get […]

Today was the first day of the Audi Med Cup-Cagliari. Three races were held in 8-18 knots for the ten boat fleet of TP52s. Onboard Artemis our first and second races were good with a 3,6 and we were 2nd overall at that point. Then a bad start and going the wrong way on the […]

I hate to report this to you but we had a very bad day on Artemis. We still managed to finish 5th in the regatta, but the racing today could hardly have been more painful for us. The conditions were perfect for this final day; 15 knot Easterly breeze, blue skies, moderate swell and the […]

It was a long day in a strong breeze, so we are all a bit tired. In 18-23 knot East Northeasterlies, we raced a windward leeward race and followed that up with a two mile coastal race. Artemis had a good day with a 6, 2 although we did not sail smoothly and made plenty […]

A long day in the heat today. It was 44C (which is about 107F) 10 miles North of here today. We had a light seabreeze…enough to get three races in. It is 1930 and we are heading back to the hotel. The Brits on TeamOrigin are on fire so far here with all their finishes […]

No wind. Plenty of heat. We’ll try again tomorrow. www.medcup.org Paul

Two races were held today in 14 knot, Easterly winds off the South coast of Spain. Artemis had an ok day….middle of the fleet in both races. We made a strategic decision this morning to not get in any close situations, no possible fouls, to just sail clean and see where the chips would fall. […]

The TP 52 fleet is back in action, this time in Cartegena, Spain. It is very hot here with temperatures right around 100F and with no wind until 1430 today, it was all about boom tents prior to the official practice race. We had the standard two practice starts followed by a race in 7-9 […]

The RC 44 Valencia Cup ended with two great races in 12-15 knots of wind on another perfectly sunny day. Team Aqua put another great performance to win the fleet racing and the overall combined. Torbjorn Tornqvist finished second with his team on Artemis and BMW Oracle 17 was third. Onboard Katusha with Guenaddi Timchenko, […]

We have had two great days of fleet racing here in Valencia in the RC 44 Class. The winds were lighter yesterday but up to 18 knots this afternoon. So far, eight races have been held. Onboard Katusha with our helmsman Guenaddi, we won a race yesterday and have gotten two 3rd place finishes to […]

We just finished the second day of Match Racing here in Valencia. 11 teams are competing. Both days were blessed with strong sea breezes reaching 20 knots and making the racing fast and exciting. Cameron Appeton, strategist for Artemis TP 52, won the event with 9 wins. This is the second win in a row […]

Another very solid day today for Artemis! We won! The breeze was late to fill so we knew it would be just one race. We knew it was a “who beats who” with Emirates Team New Zealand as they were just one point behind us. It was for all the marbles. In the pre-start there […]

Barcelona Another solid day for Artemis with scores of 1, 5, 1 on a very tricky day here in the Med. A light seabreeze filled in at noon and the first two races were sailed in 11-13 knots from the southeast. The first race went really well as we led from start to finish. We […]

Barcelona Another solid day for Artemis with scores of 5, 2, 4. The boats is going well and despite being over the start line early in race one, we were very competive all day. The winds were 12-14 from the southwest. In the first two races a big line of cloud came in and the […]

Barcelona The breeze was in from the East and the racing was on. Artemis had a good day with a 7, 2, 4. But it wasn’t without a lot of fighting with the other boats as the fleet is incredibly even. Two boats flew protest flags against us in the first race so we will […]

Barcelona 11 TP-52’s are here in Barcelona and were ready to get the first race of this series underway today. Unfortunately, the wind wasn’t so no races were held. The forecast for tomorrow is a bit better so we are hopeful. For more information go to www.medcup.org Paul

Marseille No racing again today. There were 40 knots of wind in the Gulf de Lyon. Quantum Racing, with Terry Hutchinson at the helm, won the regatta based on their great performance in the first three days. In fact, they won 4 of the 5 races including Friday’s costal race. Artemis finished last. This is […]

No race today. The Mistral is in and looks set to stay tomorrow too. The start time for tomorrow has been brought forward to 1100 to give us a chance but in reality, the forecast makes it very unlikely that we will race again here. 30-45 knots tomorrow with 2-3 meter waves.

Sailing legend Paul Cayard travels to Lisbon to compete in the Audi World Cup.

Marseille Today we had the coastal race. The course was beautiful, taking the fleet around several islands and down along the coast eastwards to a city called Cassis. On Artemis we did not do much better than we have been doing all week. We finished 8th after blowing up 2 spinnakers during the race. We […]

Marseille Not the day we were imagining on Artemis. One positive of the day was that our speed seemed fine. We made a few adjustments and carded a more powerful jib so our speed appeared to be as good as any other boat on the track. However, our 6, 8 finishes are not going to […]

Tough day for Artemis in the light winds of Marseille. We did not have good speed upwind or downwind in the sloppy seaway. With scores of 7, 10, 9 we are firmly in control of last place. In fact in the second race we will probably get another point of penalty for racing with a […]

We had a pretty good day on Katusha. The winds were 15-20 knots from the west and very shifty. Fun downwind! Guenaddi had to leave last night so we had a guest helmsman, Maxim Logutenko who is also Russian. In the first two races we did very well passing boats downwind in the planing conditions […]

No racing today. Too much wind. Better forecast for tomorrow. Unfortunately, our owner and helmsman Guenaddi had to leave tonight for a work appointment tomorrow so he won’t be here for racing tomorrow. We will have a replacement helmsman, also from Russia, Maxim Logutenko. Gala dinner tonight for the teams. 1030 start tomorrow. Paul

June 11 will be a day Guenaddi will remember for a while. It is the day he won his first sailboat race. After a three hour postponement, the fleet racing got underway at 1500 in 12 knots from the southeast. Four races were run today with the last one finishing at 1915. Long day. The […]

Well, that makes two of the worst days of sailing in my career. Today, we did not do much better than yesterday, despite fully debriefing yesterday and really focusing on what we were doing. We did manage to win the friendly rivalry match we have with Cereef today, where the skipper is Rod Davis. Rod […]

I think this was the worst start ever for me at a match race event in 25 years. Onboard Katusha, we were 0 and 4 to start. The worst part is that we were first to the first mark in every one of those races. Basically, one way or another, we managed to give the […]

No wind this morning meant no Petit Final for Artemis. Instead the race committee had to move straight into the finals when the wind filled around noon. In the first race of the day, the Russians on Synergy kept their winning ways from yesterday and took control right from the start, made it look easy […]

No racing for Artemis today. If wind permits, we will race All4One in the Petit final first thing Sunday morning. In the other semi final, the Russian team Synergy defeated All4One in 2 straight races in light winds. Following that, the first race of the final was run between Synergy and Emirates Team New Zealand. […]

Tough day for Artemis. The short story is we won the first race leading all the way around. The second race was abandoned after one lap when the Northeasterly died as the Northwesterly filled. The restarted second race was all about the left and ETNZ got the left at the start. They led all the […]

It was one of the better sailing days we’ve had here in La Maddalena. Just as Chris Bedford who provides the weather forecast for ARTEMIS predicted, the wind started to build mid-morning. In the first race of the day, Emirates Team New Zealand were spot on with their timing for the pin end at the […]

The final four days of the Louis Vuitton Trophy La Maddalena will be televised around the globe, live, beginning on 3rd June. In territories without live television, fans can pick up the programme on a live internet stream. With 10 of the best sailing teams in the world duelling on the sparkling waters of the […]
